This is a chart of the ionizing radiation dose a person can absorb from various sources. The unit absorbed dose is “sievert” (Sv) and measures the effect a dose of radiation will have on the cells of the body. One sievert (all at once) will make you sick and too many will kill you, but we safely absorb small amounts of natural radiation daily.
Note: The same number of sieverts absorbed in a shorter time will generally cause more damage, but your cumulative long-term dose plays a big role in things like cancer risk.
This is taken from XKCD‘s chart, but informationisbeautiful puts it in a more aesthetic and clear info graphic. Click on image to enlarge.

Wikipedia is celebrating 10 years of existence this January and I for one am very grateful for it. It’s an amazing site that I use almost every day. Hats off to the founders and to the people who helped create content and edited the articles.
The State of Wikipedia not only explores the rich history and inner-workings of the web-based encyclopedia, but it’s also a celebration of its 10th anniversary. With more than 17 million articles in over 270 languages, Wikipedia has undoubtedly become one of the most visited and relied upon sites on the web today.
